RESEARCH ASSISTANT JOB
Leverhulme Trust Research Assistant

Prior-Independent Shape Regularisation for Geometric Active Contours
Applications are invited for a two-year post-doctoral Research Assistantship funded by the Leverhulme Trust involving investigation into geometric active contours and their development towards object segmentation and tracking in image sequences without dedicated priors.
Description of post
The project is aimed at the development of an active contour based object segmentation and tracking algorithm that eliminates the need for customized, prior knowledge. Spatial and temporal shape regularisations are to be self-imposed by the shape in the course of tracking to achieve noise and occlusion resilience. This would remove a significant amount of human intervention and make the solution more generic across different application domains. To achieve this, we hope to extend the Level Set based geometric active contour model.
Technical requirements
- PhD in computer science or associated field,
- Expertise in the field of computer vision, preferably with specialization in active contours,
- Excellent mathematical and analytical abilities,
- Good programming skills in C, C++, and Matlab,
- Published work in the area of computer vision.
The Computer Vision Group at Bristol
The Computer vision Group at Bristol University comprises 4 full-time academic staff, 5 RAs, and around 10 PhD students. The group is well-established and dynamic with interests across the field of computer vision. It is associated closely with companies in and around Bristol, and collaborates widely with other academic and industrial partners nationally and internationally. The group's www page is at: http://www.cs.bris.ac.uk/Research/Vision/
Applying
The post is funded for two years and the start date can be negotiated. Applications, including curriculum vitae, should be sent to Mrs Hayley Frapwell, Department Administrator, at the address below, to reach her asap. Candidates are also asked to request two referees to write directly to Mrs Frapwell.
