The Sony EyeToy was launched onto the video games market three years ago. Since then, it has found its way into over 8 million homes worldwide. Using a small video camera plugged into a PlayStation, it tracks the player's motion, allowing them to play games by moving their bodies rather than using a controller.
Post Doc position available to work with Philip Torr at Oxford Brookes University together with Sony developing new computer vision algorithms for computer games. Required skills:
- Strong academic and commercial knowledge of computer vision
- Ability to research and develop new computer vision algorithms
- Good C++
- Strong mathematics
- A passion for computer games
The successful candidate will be self motivated, organised and good at communicating. They should be able to create novel computer vision algorithms and turn these into production quality systems. They should be able to take direction and also contribute to the overall strategy and goals of the group.

PhD Case Studentship

Three year PhD Case studentship available to work in world leading computer vision group under the supervision of Professor Philip Torr http://cms.brookes.ac.uk/staff/PhilipTorr. The Oxford Brookes vision group http://cms.brookes.ac.uk/computervision is a new, friendly and productive group engaged in active research in several areas of computer vision, including motion capture, object recognition, human motion analysis, segmentation and new view synthesis. We have strong industrial ties with Sharp (working on 3D displays), Sony (on interactive computer games) and Vicon (working on human motion capture).
Applicants would be expected to have a very strong grounding in mathematics and strong exam grades. The studentship provides a stipend in line with EPSRC rates (with the possibility of a top-up from OMG) and covers the full-time tuition fees for a maximum of three years at the home/EU rate.
