The “Vakgroep Elementaire-deeltjesfysica” of the University of Antwerp is expecting several openings for Ph.D. scholarships and full time postdoctoral positions for outstanding students and researches, starting January 1st, 2007.
The main topic of research of the group is the experimental study of fundamental interactions at large accelerators like the LHC at CERN, Geneva and HERA at DESY, Hamburg. The group is presently involved in the CMS and H1 international collaborations and has a long tradition in the study proton structure and diffractive interactions. Successful applicants are expected to work on the experimental analysis of diffractive and forward interactions with the CMS detector at the LHC.
Ph.D. scholarships and postdoctoral positions are available for a period of four years and are subject to social security. Important computing facilities and a supporting research environment are available to the candidates. The successful candidates will be based in Antwerp, but should also be prepared to travel regularly to CERN. The Ph.D. scholarships in particular are expected to lead to a Ph.D. degree at the University of Antwerpen.
To qualify, the candidates should have a master, resp. doctoral degree in Physics and demonstrate a strong motivation for fundamental research in an international environment.
